Well I currently am stuck in Ohio, and Ohio's not one of those states so... since we're doing this at *MY* place (I clearly have the cooler stuff) we have to abide by Ohio state laws.
i can agree with that in some respects. i use to consider myself a libertarian, but i don't anymore because i find their economic policies to be naive at best and insane at worst, but i still believe in most of their social ideals when it comes to the bill of rights and that is very conservative in a way that most people no longer understand. that's also one of the reasons i call myself a half ass socialist. i don't believe the state needs to save me from myself. i also have a very limited idea of gun control. i do support universal healthcare and what not, but i'm about to start rambling. my apologies. i've been ingesting large amounts of caffeine today. i'll just stop now before i get started.
(Just now read this thread, sorry) Like you, I guess, I've flirted with Libertarianism, but their economic & foreign policies killed it for me. My main focus lately has been on actually folllowing the Constitution, which neither party seems to want to do. I don't have a problem with a lot of programs Congress wants to push through; it just needs to be done at the state level, where most taxes are decided. Of course, Congress & SCOTUS have been raping the 10th Amendment for decades now, and so when I tell my liberal friends this, they just stare uncomprehendingly. That's where they & I part ways.
Gay Marriage? Fine. It's not prohibited by the Constitution. Nor is it necessarily allowed. Therefore, it is a state issue. (Some say it's covered by the Commerce Clause in Article I Section 8, but that's a real stretch). I'm afraid the honest answer to this one (short of a new Amendment) is a little messy. I just don't trust today's Court to look for an honest answer.

Pretty sure this will end up at the SupCourt where they'll say "it's legal" and then we'll pass a Constitutional Amendment quantifying exactly what marriage is. I just hope we don't use Texas as an example:
"Marriage in this state shall consist only of the union of one man and one woman. This state or a political subdivision of this state may not create or recognize any legal status identical or similar to marriage."
Ok, so I'm really late on responding to this, but I just wanted to add my opinion...which is that everyone should be able to "Marry" anyone of consenting age they want, regardless of gender!
I mean, hell, this is 2010 after all!
It's those Damn conservatives holding back true progress! (no offense intended to any conservatives in this forum of course)
I do feel justified in saying these rather strong opinions, because ironically about half of my relatives are conservatives and I more often then not their outlook on the world and society is a tad annoying; not to mention being a liberal myself, I have to hold my tongue! ...because those in my family who aren't liberal have very "delicate" ears!
Hell, just let girls marry each other and everything will be dandy!! So long as there is at least one left for me to marry! ::chuckles::
All right, sorry, just felt like ranting a little bit...don't mind me!
Nothing wrong with belated posting as long as you contribute. Hell, a month and a half isn't even really Thread Necromancy, even if you *DID* only write "lol" or something. But... yeah... under two months combined with actual contribution... we'll take it!
