I lived in the Philippines for 2 years and loved renting lesbian movies over there. I'd love to see some of the newer ones. If you'd like to trade give me a contact email or messenger id and we can get things rolling
Azure: I am happy to say, that things are slowly changing.... for the better. My country used to be very conservative with this type of things, but it is now morally accepted.
In print ads, and on movies, you can definitely see the improvements
hi. I'm Ian 32 male from Jakarta, Indonesia. I'm pretty sure i'm the only one from Indonesia in this forum. just a feeling. For those who doesn't know my country, we are bordered with Malysia, Philippines, Australia, and Papua New Guinea, and recently East Timor. it is said we are the largest archipelago in the world. we have approx 13 615 islands scattered all over our country.
Though we have the largest moslems population of the world, we are republic. There are 6 official religions. I can say the people pretty much religious in a way. but i tell you something odd. i don't know it happens in other country. gay/lesbian is a taboo issue, forbidden in all the religions. past few years gay men were more open, and people gotten more receptive to gay men especially after HIV/AIDS casualties increased. Even had a Foundation for gay men. Drag queens and transvestites is more & more popular on TV or media. Night clubs even has gay night. the odd thing is there is no openly lesbian. lesbian community is underground and very exclusive. If they're interviewed on TV , it is strictly anonymous or covered face. if a local celeb here is under suspicion as lesbian, the media and the society are not nice to her. She off course denied everything 'cause she's afraid to ruin her career. all and all lesbian definitely a no - no.
on the contrary, we had several openly gay men celeb. Though it's hard to except, but they got a lot nicer response here from the media and society. This kind of attitude really puzzled me. What is wrong with my people? or this happens on other country as well?
As an ignorant American, unfamiliar with too many cultures, I'll ask a question. How are women in general treated in your society? As complete equals? I just wonder if it is more acceptable in your society for a man to commit a socially "taboo" act than it is for a woman.
In this country, we are becoming more liberal in our social views as a whole (with minor republican setbacks). In a way, I believe the male fantasy of lesbianism has helped the cause of homosexuals over here. Since lesbianism has been pushed to the mainstream, our society has almost been forced to give equal time to male homosexuality (ie: Queer As Folk and to a lesser extent Queer Eye, etc.). Although we still have a long way to go.
